Where to lay your runner
Common kitchen layouts, seen from above. We cut the runner to fit your kitchen.
Run it straight down the middle for a look that offers comfort all the way through the room.
Run it the full length of the sink-side units, perfect for catching spills and comfort at the sink.
Lay one runner along each worktop with a small gap at the corner so neither one overlaps the other.
Fill the gap between the worktop and the island, and match the island's length.
Put it on the seating side. Perfect catching crumbs and protecting your floors from stool legs.
Run one along the units where you do your cooking, and a second one under the stools at the bar.
Run it from the sink to the open end, so every trip between the hob and the fridge lands on it.
Give each side its own runner. The back one runs the full width and the two sides tuck in below it.
Kitchen runner questions, answered
Will a kitchen runner slip on hard floors?
We have a large selection of anti-slip kitchen runners. These have gel or latex non-slip backing. Check the product specification on this page to see what backing this runner has. If it doesn't have anti-slip backing, you can pair it with our anti-slip underlay. Tick Add anti-slip underlay and we'll cut it to match your runner size. You can also browse our anti-slip kitchen runners.
Can I get a custom length?
Yes. We cut every kitchen runner to your chosen size. Choose your length and width and we'll take care of the rest.
How long should my kitchen runner be?
It's down to preference, and it depends where you're planning to put the runner in your kitchen. Along a galley, in front of the sink or between an island and the units are all fine. Choose the length that covers the floor you want to walk on.
How wide should my kitchen runner be?
It's down to preference. Measure the galley or walkway from side to side. Most people like to leave 5 to 15cm of floor showing between counters or islands. Some like their runner to sit up to the counters, islands or skirting. You can read more in our how to measure for a rug runner guide.
Do these have rubber backing?
The backing may not be rubber, but we offer gel and latex non-slip backings on our anti-slip kitchen runners. Check the specification on this page to see which backing this runner has. If it isn't anti-slip, tick Add anti-slip underlay and we'll cut it to your length and width.
Can I match my kitchen runner to the hall and stairs?
Yes. This kitchen runner is also sold as a hall runner and a stair runner. You can find the matching runners on this page and browse from there. They are also custom cut to your chosen length.
