Stair Runners

Our stair runners are cut to the length of your staircase, up to 30 metres in one piece, and arrive bound on both edges and ready to fit. Unlike fitted carpet, a runner leaves a border of stair showing on each side, so you keep the look of your wood or painted stairs while adding comfort underfoot.

Stair runner colours

Neutral shades are the easiest to live with. Grey stair runners and beige stair runners sit well against wood or white painted stairs and show off the border on each side. Cream stair runners keep a staircase light and airy, and work best on a flight away from the front door.

For stairs that see a lot of shoes, black stair runners and brown stair runners hide everyday scuffs and still look smart.

Patterned stair runners

Striped stair runners and bordered stair runners draw the eye up the flight, which works well on a long or narrow staircase. Tartan stair runners and traditional stair runners suit Victorian and Edwardian homes with turned spindles and period detail.

Modern stair runners give a cleaner look in newer homes, and animal print stair runners are for anyone who wants the stairs to be the first thing people notice when they walk in.

Hard-wearing stair runners

Stairs take a lot of wear, especially on the edge of each step. If yours are the main route through a busy house, start with our durable stair runners, made for daily traffic from shoes, pets and children.

Fitting a stair runner

A stair runner is fitted to each step rather than laid loose. Our stair runner underlay and gripper pack has underlay pads pre-cut for standard treads and grippers sized for the stair edges, so it holds the runner firmly without glue or carpet tape.

You'll need a tape measure, staple gun, carpet bolster, safety knife and rubber mallet. Start at the top step and work your way down, checking the runner stays central as you go. Our stair runner installation guide takes you through it step by step.

Stair rods are optional. They don't hold the runner in place, but they add a classic finishing touch, especially on a traditional staircase.

Made to measure for your stairs

Before you order, use our stair measuring guide to work out the width and length you need. Your runner then arrives bound, cut to size and ready to fit, with no trimming needed.
