How to Install

How to Lay Your Runrug Carpet Like a Pro

How to Lay Your Runrug Carpet Like a Pro

Step 1: Get Prepped and Pumped

Before you jump in, double-check that you've got all your tools lined up. You'll thank yourself later. Also, give that subfloor a good look-overÑmake it clean, level, and ready for some carpet action.

  • Gripper Strips
  • Hammer
  • Utility Knife
  • Carpet Stretcher
  • Measuring Tape
  • Staple Gun (for underlay)

Tip: Your new carpet should acclimate to your home's temperature for about 24 hours before you start laying it down.

Step 2: Tack It Down

Time to get your gripper strips in place! Line them up about half an inch from the wall, spikes facing upwards. Be mindful of the instructions that come with your specific carpet for any extra steps.

Need tack strips? Head over to our accessories page to grab some.

Step 3: Roll Out the Underlay

Lay your underlay down, making sure it covers the tack strips. This will add a layer of comfort and soundproofing to your new carpet. Trim any excess and tape the seams.

Step 4: Let's Roll That Carpet

Position your carpet, making sure you've got a bit of an overhang at the edges. Attach the carpet to the tack strips at one corner, and then stretch it out using a carpet stretcher to the opposite corner. Keep going until the carpet is smooth and securely attached.

Take your time, and make sure each section is perfectly aligned for that pro finish.

Step 5: Cut to Perfection

Chances are, you'll need to trim the edges for a snug fit. Measure and mark your cutting line on the carpet's backing. Use a sharp utility knife to cut along the line for a clean edge.

A sharp utility knife is your best friend here.

Step 6: Seal the Deal

You're almost there! Press down the edges of the carpet into the gap between the tack strip and the wall, tucking it in neatly. For a pro touch, consider adding a carpet trim at doorways.

Wait 24 hours before moving your furniture back in to let everything settle.

Voila! You've just installed your own Runrug carpet. Got questions or need more tips? We're always here to help you step it up with Runrug!
