Quick tips for cleaning your carpets

The team here at Carpet Runners knows full well how much you love your carpets – it’s all that you ever want to talk to us about! But fair enough, we are a carpet company, so that may explain things somewhat.

Still, such passion for carpets among our customers reminds us just how much you dread those stains and odours. What can you do about them? Well, quite a lot, as it happens.

Prepare yourself for those nasty stains!

Yep, it doesn’t matter how careful you are – it’s a sound bet that sooner or later, you’ll spill something on your carpet, and when you do, it’s best to remove the mess quickly rather than leave it until later.

That’s why the most diligent of our customers here at runrug.com ww always have a clean, white and absorbent cloth or towel ready nearby, along with a suitable solution, such as dry cleaning solution – which you can normally get from your local chemists – or detergent solution, which consists of one teaspoonful of gentle detergent to half a pint of warm water.

Inappropriate detergents for use on carpets or upholstery include wash powders, washing up liquid, household bleach and disinfectants.

Good general carpet cleaning advice

The of thumb is to scrape up solids and blot up liquids, via fast and thorough action. After accurately mixing the solution, you should test it out on another, inconspicuous area of carpet. It’s advisable to always work from the stain’s outer edge towards the centre, as well as to dab or blot instead of scrubbing or rubbing.

Again, remember that you’ll stand the best chance of success if you act to remove the stain quickly – fast drying, for instance, can be encouraged with the careful use of a hairdryer on mild heat. The most important advice of all is to never over-wet.

Follow these tips, and we’re sure that you’ll once again have an amazing-looking, spotless carpet!
